Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.

So, I finally got around to reading this book and overall I enjoyed it. The story idea, while not completely original, has not been done for a while and certainly not quite in this way and it is a good hook.

Now, as with the Twilight books, I would have to state that in terms of her prose, Stephenie Meyer is not the best writer out there. But, she can spin a good yarn and she certainly had me on the edge of my seat and even in tears a few times.

I gave this book four stars as I did feel it was a little too long. There were moments I was completely sucked into the story, but there were also a couple of points when I started to get bored. Both times, the action soon picked up again, but it did make me wish she had moved things along a little bit quicker.

All up, though, the story was interesting, the characters were compelling and I would read the other books in this series once they are released. I believe the film is coming in 2013 so I am keen to see what they'll do with that too as the story certainly lends itself to cinema.
