Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a new way of living – one without massacres and torn throats and bonfires of the fallen, without revenants or bastard armies or children ripped from their mothers’ arms to take their turn in the killing and dying.

Once, the lovers lay entwined in the moon’s secret temple and dreamed of a world that was a like a jewel-box without a jewel – a paradise waiting for them to find it and fill it with their happiness.

This was not that world.
(Goodreads Synopsis)

Days of Blood and Starlight is the second book in the series, but I am happy to say it is as strong as the first. Not suffering from the usual fate of middle books in a trilogy, the story kicks off right away and maintains great plot and character development throughout. The pacing is good and always kept me eager to turn the page and read just one more chapter before bed.

Karou is a wonderful character and I am enjoying following her adventures and problems. The book finished up with another teasing cliff-hanger and I am looking forward to reading the final part and seeing how it will all end for her and Akiva.

This is a wonderful, original YA series that I can highly recommend to anyone and everyone.

  1. I absolutely adored Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I have a copy of this book, but haven't read it yet. I really like how you said it was just as strong as the first one, because so often the sequel isn't. Nice review. :)
