Today is release day for A Summer's Day: A Shakespeare Anthology with a Twist, which includes my Coriolanus-based short story 'The Devil and the Lion', so that seemed an appropriate one from which to quote today. Next time I'll head back to another sneak-peek at a w-i-p. :)
Aufidius settled beside him. Now the moment had come, his soldier’s heart took over and former fears fled. All that remained was to commence a strategic attack. “I am come to propose an amendment to our agreement.”
Martius’ brow furrowed. “Go on.”
“I would have us more than joint commanders.”
“My friendship to thee and to the Volsces I have already sworn. Yet gladly will I swear again, and take any oath to prove my loyalty.”
“I would have us more than friends.”

Featuring 'The Devil and the Lion' by Asta Idonea
Caius Martius and Tullus Aufidius have long been enemies. Then Martius arrives on Aufidius' doorstep, seeking a military alliance. Aufidius accepts; however, he wishes their partnership to extend from the battlefield to the bedchamber. His lust for Martius is one of the reasons he spares his life, but his jealousy will soon have terrible consequences.
Oh, wow, this is so proud and beautiful! (heart)
ReplyDeleteI wonder what his reaction will be.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't beat around the bush, does he? Right to the point. Wonder how Martius will take the proposal.
