A Precocial Son
by Nicki J. Markus
The proud parents displayed their newborn, while the family cooed and fussed over him. A fly flew past, and the child grabbed it and stuffed it into his mouth. The spectators gasped, but then someone laughed and it was soon forgotten.
At three, it was a small bird. How he got hold of it no one ever discovered, but once he was done, all that was left were a few stray feathers.
Perhaps they should have realised it was only a matter of time, yet they were surprised when they arrived one day to find the sixteen-year-old devouring his parents.
