Today I thought I'd share something from my forthcoming release: an MM contemporary novella called Wish You Were Here, which releases in early 2017 from Dreamspinner Press, and for which I am currently going through edits.
In this scene, Oakley returns to the cottage following a disastrous dinner with his parents.
A movement in the distance caught Bobby’s eye and he ceased his swinging to observe the solitary figure storming up the bridle path, hands shoved in his pockets, head bowed, and shoulders hunched. As the walker drew nearer, Bobby recognized Oakley, and a thrill of excitement ran along his spine, only to fade a moment later when he considered Oakley’s posture. He pressed back against the tree trunk and wondered what to do. Oakley looked miserable, and Bobby’s instinct was to go to him. But where were his parents? He couldn’t wander over and greet Oakley if his folks were likely to appear at any moment.
