Shelton in Love is told in five stories spanning two and a half years of Shelton and Nevil’s relationship, the ups and downs, trials and celebrations, with a promise, a separation, a frantic return, temptation and a final triumph. Sometimes Shelton finds it difficult to love a beautiful man, but Nevil is worth the effort. Shelton’s eager to move their relationship to the next level, marriage, but will Nevil ever be ready to take this step with him?
"Damn," Shelton swore as he stepped from the commuter train into a bitter wind. Putting up the collar of his coat, he hurried along the sidewalk, hoping to beat the storm home. The first snowflakes stung his face before he reached the brownstone apartment he and Nevil had recently moved into. He smiled with relief when he spotted Nevil's Prius in the driveway. Good. He wouldn't have to worry about Nevil driving in the bad weather.
As he inserted his key into the front door lock, Shelton's mood lifted further with the thought of being home. It had been a long week, and he looked forward to relaxing on the couch with a beer and the hockey game on TV. Nevil would grumble about it, sitting at his feet and picking the game apart. Bored, he would fixate on one of the more handsome athletes, talking dirty until at last he'd crawl over Shelton's body and take out his kindled imagination on his obliging lover.
Shelton patted his coat pocket, reassured that the small jewelry box he'd picked up that morning hadn't been misplaced. After six months with Nevil he wanted to take their relationship one step further. Excitement ran through him as he imagined Nevil's amorous response to his gift. Feeling slightly aroused, Shelton eagerly pushed open the front door.
Synthpop dance music pounded from the bedroom stereo as Shelton closed the door on the storm. He removed his shoes in the foyer and set them neatly beside Nevil's before making his way down the hall. Pausing in the bedroom doorway, he leaned on the frame. By the loud music and clothes strewn on the bed, Nevil was clearly dressing to go out in his usual, untidy way. Shelton chewed his lip, remembering the snow.
Nevil glanced up from the buttons on his dress shirt and an attractive smile slid across his face. Shelton felt his bones melt under Nevil’s admiring gaze. "Good. You're here. Hurry up. We're going to be late as it is."
Shelton's spirits fell. "What are we doing?"
"Stewart's birthday?"
"God, is that tonight? It's snowing outside."
Nevil walked over and helped him out of his coat. "Don't be silly, love. We get snow here every year." He pushed the tie to one side and then unbuttoned Shelton's shirt. "Oh my."

Dianne Hartsock is the author of m/m erotic romance, both contemporary and fantasy, the psychological thriller, and anything else that comes to mind. Oh, and a floral designer. If she can’t be writing, at least she has the chance to create through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage to bring a smile to someone’s face.
