Today for Author Interview³, I welcome LE Franks to the blog to share her work.
1) Tell us 3 fun facts about your writing history
Fun Fact 1 – I started writing again after a long absence when my kindle habit climbed to over $400/month.
Fun Fact 2 – When I look at paintings I can taste the color – a skill that translates well when creating atmosphere in my writing.
Fun Fact 3 – I remember how I felt at key stages in my life, starting as a very young child. This skill proves very handy well when I’m fleshing out my characters or anticipating my teenager: neither gets away with much, though sometimes both do surprise me.
2) Describe your writing style in 3 words
Quirky, Snarky, Literary
3) Name 3 of your literary influences
Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Jane Austin
Hunter S Thompson
4) Share you 3 favourite books
Pride & Prejudice – Jane Austin
Love In the Time of Cholera – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Shakespeare’s Bawdy – Eric Partridge
5) What are your 3 essential writing tools?
My tiny MacBook Air – small enough to fit in my satchel, I’ve dragged it all over the country.
My ear buds and iTunes selection on repeat.
Writer’s Digest Character Naming Sourcebook – Sherrilyn Kenyon
6) Where are your 3 favourite places to write?
Best writing spot ever was the lobby of the Burbank Marriot with my m/m romance author buddies. One huge table with executive office chairs and 24 hour Del Taco across the road. #VeryProductive
At home I ping-pong between my upstairs desk (hidden behind bookcases), and my downstairs table with a window filled with green oak leaves and sunshine, depending on the time of day.
Virgin America terminal at SFO – lots of comfy chairs and outlets. Bliss
7) Name 3 items on your writing wish list
Finish my complicated female serial killer thriller/gay romance.
Complete my 6 days series this year and release them on audiobooks.
A long weekend away with other authors to just wallow in plotting and planning.
8) What are your top 3 tips for aspiring writers?
Develop a thick skin when it comes to criticism by gradually desensitizing yourself: expose yourself and your writing by joining groups, taking classes, write reviews for other books, and avoid groups or reviewers that make you feel rotten about your talent. No one needs that.
9) Tell us 3 of your writing plans for the year ahead
Finish 6 Days to Get Away
Write a short story for myself
10) Tell us about your latest release
6 Days to Get Lucky is the second installment of my romantic comedy series that follows the developing relationship between bartender Nick Valentine, and bouncer Davis “FatBoy” Newman, over the course of one year. 6 Days to Get Lucky picks up the story four weeks after 6 Days to Valentine, as events at the bar conspire to keep the couple apart in the days leading up to the big St Patrick’s Day celebration.
The first two books in the 6 Days Series have now been released in a paperback-only edition: A Duo of Days.
6 Days to Get Lucky
6 Days Book 2
Heat Level 3
Gay Romantic Comedy
Mixologist Nick Valentine never thought love was in the cards, but after a scorching Valentine’s Day kiss from bouncer Davis “FatBoy” Newman, he’s beginning to think it’s possible. After four weeks of dry spell, Nick’s losing patience—it’s time FatBoy stop acting the gentleman and just throw him over the bar or Nick may just change his mind.
All FatBoy wants is a shot at winning Nick’s heart. As long as meddling bosses, an Irish hurling team and a bar riot don’t ruin his chances forever, he might just get lucky and take the man of his dreams, home.
