Author Interview3: K.S. Trenten

Today I welcome K.S. Trenten to the blog to answer a few questions for Author Interview³.

K.S Trenten Author Interview³

1) Tell us 3 fun facts about your writing history
I love stories: reading them, creating them… I wanted to spend all my time on them, or as much as possible. I didn’t earn any money from my first release. I had to ask for the rights back. Happily it found a new home in NineStar Press’s Once Upon a Rainbow. :)

2) Describe your writing style in 3 words
Ambient speculative fiction.

3) Name 3 of your literary influences
Storm Constantine, Algernon Blackwood, and Sarah Monette.

4) Share your 3 favourite books
This is a difficult if not impossible choice…I have so many favorites! Going with what’s at the top of my head…Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice, Hell and Earth by Elizabeth Bear, and Becoming Human by Valerie Freireich.

5) What are your 3 essential writing tools?
Pencil, paper, and laptop.

6) Where are your 3 favourite places to write?
In the kitchen when the light is just right. In my office. In the right coffee house.

7) Name 3 items on your writing wish list
A cover artist, an editor, and a formatter. (I’m working on self publication. :))

8) What are your top 3 tips for aspiring writers?
Don’t give up. Do a lot of work. (If you’re not confident about your skills, you will improve if you do a lot of work.) Look for opportunities to learn how to improve your craft.

9) Tell us 3 of your writing plans for the year ahead
Do a book signing for NineStar Press with Marvin Neu. Release an expanded version of A Symposium in Space. Finish revisions on Stealing Myself From Shadows (the first book in my Tarot-inspired ambient fantasy series, Tales of the Navel/The Shadow Forest).

10) Tell us about your latest release
Well, NineStar Press accepted an expanded version of A Symposium in Space, which should be coming out soon. It’s a futurist f/f dinner party inspired by Plato’s classic. Since I don’t have my cover art yet for this (Here’s hoping Natasha Snow comes up with something as beautiful as she has for NineStar Press’s other releases!), I’m going to introduce Once Upon a Rainbow, a collection of LGBTQIA+ fairytales, including my f/f fantasy fairytale, Fairest! Fairest is a steamy story which qualifies as YA.

Fairest Blurb
All of my life, I’ve been haunted by her dark eyes. At birth, she cursed me to prick my finger on the spindle and sleep for a century. She appears in my dreams, my reflections, shaping my desires. Who is she? My guardian has only revealed a few enigmatic words as to her identity, the fairest of them all. Follow me into the lonely Forest of Tears where the dwarves dwell, walking where she once walked. Gaze into the depths of the magic mirror which reveals her secrets. For I refuse to fear her, even if I should.
