It's the weekend once more. That means it's time for my book-blogger hopping.
Have you ever thought about taking a break from blogging/Booktubing (if you're a Booktuber)? If you have, how long was the break and what did you learn from it?
No, I've been blogging for about nine years and have never taken a major break, nor do I plan to do so. As for vlogging, I started that seriously a couple of years ago. I don't envisage any full breaks at present, but I will be cutting down the number of videos in 2020, simply because I am running out of topic ideas! This year I am posting 6-7 videos per month. Next year it will be around five.Have you ever thought about taking a break from blogging/Booktubing (if you're a Booktuber)? If you have, how long was the break and what did you learn from it?
Opening sentence:
'And then say what? Say, "Forget you're hungry, forget you got shot inna back by some racsist cop--Chuck was here? Chuck come up to Harlem--"'
From page 56:
According to the regulations, every cab driver was supposed to take you anywhere you wanted to go, but the drivers in the line at Seventy-ninth and First wouldn't budge unless you were going down to Wall Street or close to it
Tom Wolfe
Sherman McCoy is a WASP, bond trader and self-appointed 'Master of the Universe'. He has a fashionable wife, a Park Avenue apartment and a Southern mistress. His spectacular fall begins the moment he is involved in a hit-and-run accident in the Bronx. Prosecutors, newspaper hacks, politicians and clergy close in on him, determined to bring him down.
The plot sounds interesting and the line about cab drivers it very relatable XD
ReplyDeleteMy Friday memes this week
Yes, it's one of those lauded works I thought I should finally get around to reading, and it has been enjoyable so far.
DeleteOh, yes, that was a great book! Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit, Laurel.
DeleteSounds like it is holding up well under the test of time.
ReplyDeleteYes, it certainly has themes still relevant today.
DeleteI'm sure I saw a film in the late 80's with the same name.... Sounds alright! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThere was a movie adaptation in 1990. Tom Hanks was in it. That's probably the one you saw.
DeleteInteresting. I've heard of this book but never read it. I am spotlighting Broken Homes by Ben Aaronovitch this week. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's always on those 'books you should read lists' so I thought it was time to give it a try.
DeleteI didn't realize you posted videos. Guess I need to look at your website more closely. I have taken a few inadvertant breaks from blogging and then always found it hard to get going again at the same level as before i stopped. Sigh.My Friday quotes come from Life on Mars
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I post a range of vlogs, including end of the month roundups of the books I've been reading. Links to my YouTube are here on my blog, alongside my other social media accounts. Sometimes breaks are impossible to avoid, and I can see it would be hard to regain momentum afterwards.
DeleteWe have been blogging for the same number of years. :)
ReplyDeleteI have never done a vlog. That is amazing how many you do.
Thanks for coming by my blog, and have a great weekend.
Thanks for the visit, Elizabeth. My trick is that I do a lot of filming ahead of time in batches.
DeleteEnjoy your current read! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Breana!
DeleteOooh youre the first booktuber to answer my question this week! Awesome! I didn't know you had a channel! What's it called?
ReplyDeleteHi Dani. It's just called Nicki J. Markus. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCITnrBwhtwY6s1lThSnfxWQ
DeleteI haven't heard of this one, but I hope you enjoy! Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alicia.
DeleteSounds like an interesting read. Hope you enjoy it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley.
DeleteI can't believe you have a weblog and a vlog! So, if you haven't taken a "major break", how to step back and refresh? I'm immensely curious, as your content and frequency is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and sorry for the delay in replying; it's been a hectic few days!
DeleteMy secret is *masses* of forward planning. For example, I already have one post per month penned for 2020, ready to schedule, and I have pre-filmed as many vlogs as possible for the rest of 2019 and 2020, so they are all set to upload and I only have a handful I have to film 'in the moment'. Excessive organisation is the key!
The Bonfires of the Vanities is just as relevant today as it was when it was first written, I imagine. How do you like it so far? That's great that you have never needed to take a blogging or vlogging break. I need breaks from time to time. Have a great week, Nicki!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. I really enjoyed it. Took a few chapters to hook me, but then I loved it.
