Would you or do you choose a book solely on the cover?
Not solely, no. However, a cover is sometimes the first thing that attracts me to a book. If the cover catches my eye, it will make me read the blurb, to see what it's about. If the blurb also holds my attention, I might buy, but I would never purchase a book for the cover alone, no matter how pretty.

Opening sentence:
Her soul was bleeding.
From page 56:
Her heart raced as she read the directions she'd memorized but felt the need to review anyway.
Coral
Sara Ella
Taking a new twist on Hans Christian Andersen's beloved--yet tragic--tale, "The Little Mermaid," Coral explores mental health from multiple perspectives, questioning what it means to be human in a world where humanity often seems lost.
There is more than one way to drown.
Coral has always been different, standing out from her mermaid sisters in a society where blending in is key. Worse yet, she fears she has been afflicted with the dreaded Disease, said to be carried by humans--emotions. Can she face the darkness long enough to surface in the light?
Above the sea, Brooke has nothing left to give. Depression and anxiety have left her feeling isolated. Forgotten. The only thing she can rely on is the numbness she finds within the cool and comforting ocean waves. If only she weren't stuck at Fathoms--a new group therapy home that promises a second chance at life. But what's the point of living if her soul is destined to bleed?
Merrick may be San Francisco's golden boy, but he wants nothing more than to escape his controlling father. When his younger sister's suicide attempt sends Merrick to his breaking point, escape becomes the only option. If he can find their mom, everything will be made right again--right?
When their worlds collide, all three will do whatever it takes to survive, and Coral might even catch a prince in the process. But what--and who--must they leave behind for life to finally begin?
LOVE that cover, and it draws me in... but I wouldn't read it based on that. I would look into it further based on your snippets though. :-)
ReplyDeleteI added you to the Linky, sorry I was later. Happy weekend!
Thanks Freda. This one was a mixed bag for me in the end. I loved the idea behind it, but in my opinion it didn't completely come together.
DeleteWhat an interesting twist on a familiar story. My Friday quotes
ReplyDeleteYes, it was certainly a unique idea. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteRe: Blogger hop - These days I always choose books based on recommendations/reviews. I've never bought a book because of it's cover, but I have been turned off by a few.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how creative some re-tellings can be.
Yes, covers may be pretty, but it's not always enough for me to be sure the book is a good fit for me, and I don't have money to waste.
DeleteLove the cover. Here for the 56, but that opening line! Hope you enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alicia. You too.
DeleteAs with most of us, the cover is definitely what attracts me in the first instance but I always read the blurb too. 😉
ReplyDeleteHere's my BBH post

Yes, you do need to be sure the book is right for you, no matter how pretty the cover.
DeleteI've been so curious about this book. I really enjoyed this author's book Unblemished and have wondered if I'd like this one. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley. It was a mixed bag for me in the end, but this is my first time reading this author.
