TV Review: The Devil Judge (Crime Drama)

The Devil Judge
2021
16 episodes
MA15+
Ji Seong & Park Jin-young
Crime Drama

In a near-future dystopia, an enigmatic judge punishes the haves by carrying out his vision of justice in trials live-broadcast and voted on by citizens. (Netflix Synopsis)

I wasn't sure what to make of The Devil Judge during most of the first episode, as it started very slowly; however, by the end of episode two I was completely hooked. Kang Yo-han is a compelling and intriguing character, and he is played to perfection by Ji Seong. His relationship with Kim Ga-on (Park Jin-young) was the highlight of the show for me, and I think I will be shipping this pairing forever. The plot was interesting and the action mostly well paced. The soundtrack was also excellently matched to the drama. I loved this show enough that I plan to buy it on DVD, so I can watch it again whenever I wish, as it's definitely a piece that will bear repeat viewing. Recommended if you like courtroom/crime dramas featuring morally grey characters.
