I was already a fan of the books upon which this series was based, so I looked forward to seeing how the TV adaptation would tackle the story. I enjoyed the first two seasons, and since I have now watched the third and final season, I thought I would share my thoughts on the series as a whole. Overall, I think the adaptation works well. Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode are well cast in the lead roles and have good chemistry together. The supporting cast do a good job, too, and the addition of extra scenes (not present in the books) to show what is happening among those secondary characters while the main action takes place adds some depth to those characters and aids the narrative. The series has a pleasing aesthetic and looks good throughout, including in the historical scenes in the second season. There are some changes from the books, but none of them worried me. If you already like the books, you will likely enjoy the TV series. But even if you haven't read the books, A Discovery of Witches is worth watching if you like understated, slow-burn fantasy dramas.
