Hometown is not a series you can just play in the background while doing something else. There are so many twists and turns that if you miss any key moments it will be hard to catch up with what is going on; it requires full attention to watch. You also need to allow that nothing will make sense for most of the series. It was only really in the final 4-5 episodes that things began to come together. At first, I wasn't sure what to make of this -- was it a thriller or fantasy horror? It's hard to tell you the answer to that without spoilers; however, for anyone who doesn't like being scared, I will say it has echoes of Ring at times. Even now it's over I am not sure what I thought of it. The cast performed well, and there were things I liked, including how all the threads eventually wove together, but at the same time, I didn't fall in love with it and wouldn't watch it a second time. As such, I am giving it 3.5 stars, which I will round up to a four for the clever plotting. If you like slow-burn horror-thrillers it will be worth a look.
