I am finally getting around to watching The Secrets of Dumbledore now the DVD has released. On the positive side, I loved the VFX, especially during some of the magical fight scenes, which were well plotted and visually stunning. The cast did their best with what they had to work with, but sadly script and plot were a little lacking. While things had moved forward a little by the end of the movie, for much of the time it felt like not a lot was happening. New characters came in but were never developed in any great detail, while some important former characters got sidelined, either barely appearing at all or relegated to a secondary role. This is a "middle" movie in a long series, and they sometimes do have a bit of a slump, so I hope things will improve again with film four. This wasn't awful, despite my comments above, but it definitely wasn't on par with the first, or even the second, film. I would give it 3.5 stars. Watch if you're already invested in the series but be prepared for some minor disappointment.
