An audacious part-timer who is great at her job and a well-meaning manager who is suspicious of the new hire, team up to keep a convenience store afloat. (Synopsis)
Backstreet Rookie was an enjoyable rom-com with plenty of humour and heart. Ji Chang-wook was especially adorable in this series and I liked his chemistry with Kim Yoo-jung; although, apparently due to some controversy over a scene in episode one when, as a teenager, Kim Yoo-jung's character asks Ji Chang-wook's character to buy her cigarettes then briefly kisses him, the couple go through the entire series from then on without kissing or doing anything more romantic than hugging, which does feel a little anti-climatic when they finally get together in the last episode. That aside, though, this was a fun series that made me both laugh and cry and I recommend it to rom-com fans. It gets 4 stars from me.
