A young mermaid makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince. (Synopsis)
I was interested to see what they would make of a live-action version of The Little Mermaid, as it was always more of my favourites among the Disney animations. I had no issue with the casting, except perhaps for Eric, who sang in a constant yell. However, something overall with the piece fell flat for me. Perhaps it was the pushing of messages not in the original, which changed the focus of the story a bit. The visual effects generally looked good; I think it simply lacked spark. I’d definitely choose to rewatch the animation over this live-action version. But it wasn’t entirely awful and unwatchable, so I am giving it three stars.
