Film Review: Damsel (2024) (Fantasy)

A young woman's marriage to a charming prince turns into a fierce fight for survival when she's offered up as a sacrifice to a fire-breathing dragon. (Synopsis)

Damsel is a film with a fun premise for sure, with the princess rescuing herself rather than passively awaiting rescue. However, overall, something is missing. The effects look good, the pacing is fine, and Millie Bobby Brown puts in a decent, athletic performance. Yet, for me, it was missing that unnameable spark. It was enjoyable enough for a single watch, but I wouldn't watch it again. As such, I am giving it three stars. If you are looking for a simple fantasy-action film to while away a couple of hours, it's worth a look, but it's not a stand-out example of the genre.
