Louis de Pointe recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy. This time his journey unfolds in Post War Paris with a coven of vampires and an epic tale of love, blood and the perils of immortality. (Synopsis)
Season 2 of Interview with the Vampire has a few problems. One of those is the fact the series mostly revolves around Louis whining, whining and whining. The second is the lack of screen time for Sam Reid as Lestat. His performance is what really made season 1 work for me, and his semi-absence in this second season highlights the writing and pacing problems of the show. The cast all give perfectly fine performances, but without Lestat it looses sparkle and everything just feels repetitive and slow. As with season 1, there are many changes from the source material. That doesn't bother me overly, as I got used to it in the first season, but I still felt this season lacked clear direction at times. I understand it has been renewed for a third season which will feature Lestat more prominently, suggesting the show runners also realise they need that character and actor to carry things for the show to work. On the basis of that, I will watch the third season when it's out, but this second season only gets 3 stars from me.
