Theatre Review: Thrill Me (Musical)

Thrill Me  (쓰릴 미)

Musical

The story of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, the so-called "thrill killers" who murdered a young boy in 1924 in order to commit the perfect crime.

Thrill Me is originally an American show, but it has really taken on a life of its own in Korea with productions nearly every year since its premiere in Seoul in 2007. I was keen to see it, but when I looked online before my trip, it appeared to be sold out. However, I decided to try to get day-tickets an hour before one of the evening performances and was lucky to obtain them. This is a small-scale show with just a pianist and two cast members, but the intimacy of that setting worked really well and lent a quiet intensity to the piece. The cast we saw had excellent chemistry together and both gave great performances. The staging was likewise sparse, yet it allowed simple but effective transitions between scenes. I loved every minute of the performance, so it gets five stars from me.
