Classical Music
Led by virtuoso Yao Jue, the 25-piece Hong Kong String Orchestra brings their masterful fusion of Eastern and Western classical music to life, performing beloved works by Vivaldi alongside traditional pieces, including a unique collaboration with local pianist Yundi Yuan.
The Lunar New Year Concert by the Hong Kong String Orchestra was a delightful night of classical music. I enjoyed the programme which mixed famous Western works with Eastern pieces. The orchestra played well throughout and I liked the collaboration pieces with pianist Yundi Yuan. I personally didn't always like the scratchy quality to some of Yao Jue fast up-bowing. But that was just a matter of personal taste. Otherwise, the only thing that spoilt this event a little for me and my husband was the behaviour of the audience which featured late-comers, talking, and playing with phones. Despite this annoying disruptions, though, we enjoyed the show, so I am giving it 4.5 stars.
